All participating students in the Vietnam Ireland Schools Link Initiative were invited to arrange and exhibit their photo essays in a gallery in the centre of Hanoi. The exhibition was launched with an opening event attended by the students, parents, Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Damian Cole and representatives from the participating schools.
The task the students were set was to use the photography skills they had learned in the workshops to capture a reportage story from their daily lives. Even for the more experienced and technically adept photographers, this proved to be a challenging project. Telling stories using images is difficult and many of the students found themselves changing topics or revisiting their subjects several times before producing a sequence they were happy with.
As a bridge to the next stage of the project which is to create short documentary films students worked in groups to transform their still image essays into short videos with music, narration and if possible captured sounds. A couple of these films are shared below.
